Client Officer at Mariestad Prison
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

The Mariestad area includes the closed prison Johannesberg, the largest open prison in the country Rödjan, and Mariestad Prison. Currently, Mariestad has about 360 employees distributed across various occupational categories and competencies. Construction of a new closed prison is ongoing and is planned to be operational by 2027. There are also plans to open a new detention center in Skövde.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a client officer at Mariestad Prison, you will be responsible for the overall client work under the supervision of the prison inspector. This includes ensuring and quality-assuring the legal process, following up on inmates' executions, planning permissions, handling the legal client process, managing misconduct cases, and more. You will make assessments based on applicable regulations and guidelines and make decisions according to delegation. Other administrative tasks may also occur.
Your assignment includes developing and quality-assuring the legal work in dialogue with the manager. You will guide other staff in client work and the various processes within legal care and execution planning. You will also have overall responsibility for isolation-breaking measures for clients, which will largely involve guiding and supporting employees who perform that work.
You will be the sole client officer at the detention center but will naturally collaborate with other employees on-site as well as colleagues and managers at the prisons. An important part of the job is also cooperation with other actors both internally and externally, such as social services and other authorities.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who works well with others and adapts the way they convey their message depending on the recipient. You have the ability to remain calm and controlled even in pressured and stressful situations. You should be able to handle large amounts of information and act with good judgment in all situations. In your work, you plan, organize, and prioritize your tasks efficiently. Furthermore, you should be accommodating in your approach and have both the interest, willingness, and ability to help others.

You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. We are looking for someone who has:
- A university or college degree in law, behavioral science, or social work, or other education combined with experience that the employer deems relevant
- Good collaboration skills
- The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience in guiding staff
- Completed Prison and Probation training
- Experience in authority exercise
- Experience in investigation and/or processing within the prison and probation system
- Knowledge of and experience working with the client administrative systems of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
- Good administrative law knowledge
